When I was working in a homeless shelter a client bought tons of vanilla extract to get drunk. Why - it is purchasable with food stamps and it’s 70-80 proof.

Wow I just looked up what vanilla extract does/is… it’s 35% alcohol!!!! Drinking a small amount is comparable to taking MULTIPLE SHOTS OF HARD LIQUOR! That’s crazy

I work in addiction, treatment, and one of my patients no longer drinks, alcohol because it does nothing for him. He only drinks hand sanitizer.

My uncle was an alcoholic so bad that liquor stores wouldn’t sell to him 👀. He’d buy up extracts and mouthwash to drink 🙃. It’s really bad if you get to this point.

I was 42 when I realized vanilla had alcohol in it. My entire life I couldn't figure out what kept happening to the vanilla. Then my mother became quite ill one day and my 10 year old son said he saw grandma drinking my vanilla. Her Dr. confirmed that alot of alcoholics actually drink it.
