Pretty in Pink (1986) 💗 There’s something about Pretty in Pink that immediately takes you back to the 80s. The music, the clothes, the record stores, and that familiar feeling of being young and trying to figure out where you belong. Molly Ringwald plays Andie Walsh, a working-class teenager who makes her own clothes, works at a record store and doesn't quite fit into the wealthy crowd at her high school. Then she starts falling for Blane, played by Andrew McCarthy, and suddenly the differences between their worlds become impossible to ignore. But for many people, the most memorable character is Duckie. Jon Cryer's Duckie is awkward, funny, hopelessly devoted to Andie and responsible for one of the film's best moments: his unforgettable dance to Otis Redding's “Try a Little Tenderness” in the record store. 🎬 Here's an interesting piece of movie history: Pretty in Pink originally had a very different ending. Andie was supposed to end up with Duckie, but test audiences weren't happy with it. The filmmakers eventually reshot the ending, bringing Andie and Blane back together. That decision is still debated by fans today. And then there's the soundtrack. The Psychedelic Furs, OMD, New Order, Echo & the Bunnymen and The Smiths helped give the film a musical identity that was just as memorable as its characters.
