@npr: While navigating mental health challenges as a professional player, retired NFL champion Vernon Davis didn’t share all the details of his struggles with the therapist provided by his football team. While speaking to NPR’s Michel Martin during the Morning Edition live event called Going There: A Matter of Life and Death, Davis said he made the decision to conceal the extent of his mental health issues to attempt to protect himself because he “didn’t want them to know everything that was going on with me.” Going There: A Matter of Life and Death brought together a panel of clinicians, lawmakers and people who have lived with the pain of the suicide epidemic in the Black community, in front of a live audience. It was an attempt to try to find out why this crisis is happening, how it is affecting us, and most importantly, what we can do about it. #NPR
