most management jobs do not pay that well for the stress and time. director roles should not pay less than 300k

I think it is likely accurate and comes from a least a subconscious risk/reward analysis. There is much less to gain and more effort and uncertainty for leaders today. Not all of this is bad, "leadership" as practiced in corporate settings is nearly universally toxic to personal health and well-being. We need examples of healthy leaders who develop people not just nudge a stock price.

The demands from shareholders have never been higher and resourcing has never been lower. Leaders today are set up for failure and Gen Z is taking note.
