@paranomor: A paraglider never stops sinking. So how did one stay in the air for nearly 11 hours? 👇 No engine. No fuel. Not even a rigid frame. Just fabric, lines and a pilot who knows where the air is going up. The trick is rising air. The sun heats the ground unevenly: dark patches like ploughed fields and car parks warm up faster, and warm air rises from them. Pilots circle inside that column, just like vultures do. A young, growing puffy cloud above often marks the top of one ☀️ Climb, glide to the next one, repeat. In 2021, Sebastien Kayrouz flew 609.9 km that way, starting near Del Rio, Texas. The women's record is 531.7 km, set by Yael Margelisch in 2019. And it isn't fast: hands up, a paraglider flies at only about 32–40 km/h through the air.
