I am a white woman English first language. I learned Spanish from my husband who didn’t speak English when we started dating. We both now are bilingual. Best way to learn is immersion learning. U don’t need to know another dialect all that matters is you and ur S/O understand each other and their families

try to speak neutral Spanish when talking to someone you don't know his or her country of origin. untill you're familiar with their Spanish slang

my husband is Guatemalan/ El Salvadoran. spanish is basically the same as far as proper, but slang varies by country/ region, so when speaking to people of different countries, use the correct term and not slang and you should be fine

You need to understand each country’s culture. Enpanada in El Salvador is different outside El Salvador. Same with quesadilla.
