@myboyrudder: 10/7/2026 - a bucket list adventure to see rudder at the john weeks bridge on the charles river in boston. this bridge holds a lot of meaning and memories for me as a retired coxswain who raced down the charles river many times. it’s a pivotal part of the course - truly make or break. and because of this, you’ll see coaches and coxswains studying the lines of the course making race plans in accordance with the wind forecasts early in the morning before events begin. the turn under the bridge is highly calculated. timing, pressure, trust, and confidence are essential. when i was ready to make the call for the start of the turn, i’d count down to my crew “on the rudder in 3, 2, 1” - the origin of rudder’s name. we did it. i got to see him on the bridge wearing a collar i bought for him at the head of the charles race the year he came home, which he still wears today.
