@japdmedia26: Eastpointe, Michigan — Staff and students at Crescentwood Elementary acted quickly when a man approached children during recess on Sept. 24. Students immediately alerted teachers after the individual began speaking to them on the playground. School personnel brought the children inside, secured the perimeter, and called 911. A school employee told dispatchers the man was trying to lure children by telling them to "Come here. Come with him." Teachers kept the individual in sight as he left the school grounds. Police located 48-year-old BB Wali-Omar Williams on a nearby street shortly after the call. Body-camera footage showed an officer instructing Williams to drop sticks he was holding and step back. When asked why he was near the property, Williams told police, "I was looking at the kids," adding, "Because I want to look at the kids." Authorities confirmed no students were harmed or taken. Williams was charged with felony counts of kidnapping, child enticement, and assaulting, resisting, or obstructing an officer, along with misdemeanor trespass. At his Sept. 25 arraignment in 37th District Court, he pleaded not guilty, and a judge set a $250,000 cash-or-surety bond. A preliminary examination is scheduled for Oct. 22. School officials praised the quick reaction of the children and staff, noting that established safety protocols were followed. #Eastpointe #Michigan #UnitedStates #BBWaliOmarWilliams #japd
