@katarinaterentieva: “Banned” books sold at a big-box retailer are just a distraction, whilst real literary fruit is made forbidden by shielding us from its exposure and replacing it with slop. #marketing #popculture #BookTok #books #politics
I think if they were truly banned, we wouldn’t be able to still buy them. 🤷🏻♀️

Isn’t the banned book list referring to books banned in public schools? Of course, you can still find them in bookstores and public libraries, but they’ve been removed from school curricula.

Try to find any Communist theory books besides the Manifesto at any bookstore, and they either don't have them or they are heavily hidden where nobody will look

Do you mind making a video on the media like the new hunger games movie? I feel like it inadvertently turns you into one of the elites

Did you earnestly just suggest to me that “traditional relationships” are being banned from books as if that is not what comprises 85% of the romance genre.

also?? you can't "buy" rights to a book that's in the public domain? this video is severely under researched

My local library’s religion section is two short shelves and it’s predominantly Buddhist, Islam, and Animism/Wiccan/Pagan. There were only 5 Christian books and it was mostly books on Pope Francis. When I asked about the Interior Castle by St. Theresa of Avila (didn’t have a single copy) but told me to check hoopla. That’s a classic! And to top it all off they did a library book sale over the summer and I was fully expecting a good selection of romance, biographies, and fiction that I wanted to get at discount. Nope! Guess which section they were getting rid of truckloads of books on? ….U.S.History

Hello :
This is definitely interesting, I would love to know more books I could read that are progressive but aren’t the ones you named? I know you gave sister Carrie as an example, but any others

The original versions of books haven’t been wiped off the face of the planet. Books get updated sometimes and when people buy a version the default is the newest. This isn’t a conspiracy lol, same shit happened when I recently read “and then there were none”. That book has gone through several rounds of revisions but you can still get the original if you searched for it.

Well as far as im aware those books are banned from school. Its no longer curriculum as it used to. Not from production or buying.
I agree with you 100%. I just think that people on tiktok took something much more drastic than what was actually done/said and its (as a result) distracting us from other real and valuable books/news.
Dont get me wrong, its still bad and im not denying the possibility of these books being banned into the future.. but im just saying..
Thanks for the book recommendation! Would love to gather more

The content of this video aside — Reading and promoting frequently “challenged books” or “banned books” is insanely important. While schools have more power to remove books from collections, there has been a huge push to attempt to effect public libraries in this way too. Even to the point of wanting to allowing criminal charges to be filed against librarians for the books they have in their collections. Spoiler alert - that would be direct attack on free speech and the freedom to access information. So while I get the “if it was really banned why can we buy them?” annoyance and confusion, it’s about getting the titles and ideas in people’s hands and to protect our freedom to read what we want. And if you have the book at home, then if it is removed you still have access to it and are able to share with others. This is exactly why, although I love the convenience of my Kindle. I buy used books, especially used books that are decades old. I want the original version whenever possible.
