it means your glute medius is tight + weak. train more internal hip rotation!

i have the tightest hips EVER. the only thing that has helped me has been stretching and working on them daily. keyword daily because if i skip a day it feels like they go right back to where i started. even if im not hitting lower body at the gym i will still make 20-30 min of my workout focus on loosening them up!!

weak internal rotator muscles, been working on mine for weeks now before my leg days. I start with mobility drills as a warm up then finish with strengthening exercises to get that full ROM.

So no - you’re putting your hip in a very end range internally rotated position, muscles are often very weak in their end range position due to max shortening / contracting. Therefore when you try to push it farther into end range - it’s pushing the muscle past its limitation and you get a cramp. Sincerely a DPT 💗

Internal rotation is weak (hip imbalance) keep doing these and other internal rotational exercises to help get more hip stability and it will help you access your glutes better

it means you need to strengthen your hip flexors they’re week and right before you try and build them try and get them looser by dynamic stretching and then after working out static stretches then slowly add movements to strengthen them

hip flexor, I'd advise going to see a pelvic floor therapist becauseoften there are more deep rooted issues as to why you have this pain

sit down with your legs straight out infront and place a kettle bell /dumbbell next to your ankle and practice lifting your leg over it like a rainbow while keeping your legs straight. it will help build your hips and as it gets easier move the weight further away from the middle

You’re lacking internal rotation. keep practicing- you’ll feel a difference as you gain more access and control of your ROM

if it’s anything like what I dealt with, it could be a weak TFL muscle!! my cramps eventually went away with time, and I honestly think it was just from those muscles getting stronger the longer i built them up, even if i had to use lower weight to do it lol i also started focusing more on stretching my outer hips specifically before every glute day so I wasn’t going into my workouts feeling so stiff, and I think that helped keep them from cramping up as easily !!!☺️

Not hip flexors, hip internal rotators. When you sit like that the muscles are in a shortened position making it harder to produce the movement.

Single leg glute bridges will always be the best way to strengthen hip flexors

I like to do 90–90 rotations to loosen the hips up! I really like that one coming from someone with tight hips

Before leg day I do what you’re doing now but have my legs at 90/90 instead of a 45° like you’re doing now. I do 20 reps of what you’re doing here in the video, then 10 reps of 90/90 toe taps (you can look this up) then I go into the bottom of a squat and push one elbow/arm into one thigh to push that leg out and stretch that hip while shifting my weight into the other leg then I go back and forth and do that 10 times on each hip then I’m good to go!

So not hip flexor, hip internal rotators! Try sitting on a bench, knees together and bring your foot out like this but in sitting!

you're not doing anything wrong! if you want to decrease intensity while you build strength in the muscles of your hip/glute that internally rotate the leg, you can lean toward your front leg & perform the movement, isometric holds will also help build tolerance & strength. then move your torso back as you gain strength and mobility in the working leg 🫶🏼
