When this was done for the Janet Jackson song Rhytm Nation, laptops crashed and became unusable. This happened because the sped up song included a bass frequency that matched with the natural resonant frequency of the mechanical hard drives used in laptops.

"Careless Whisper" is another great track from the 80s that used varispeed to pitch things up. This is why the sax line is so good, it's hitting notes that it shouldn't!

They also did this a LOT on single versions of songs too, check out the album version of “Baker Street” by Gerry Rafferty and then the single version and you’ll hear a difference. Probably why when you do listen to these songs on their original album formats, they sound so different from when you heard them on the radio
