the idea that its a man's job or role to chase is misogyny cos it propagatescthe notion that women are the passive ones and men are the ones that 'make things happen' or 'get stuff done' if you like someone be it romantically or platonically let them know, let them know you want to hang out with them, and if they see you as beneath them for it then its their loss. people who think you're pathetic for liking them don't like themselves, so they think you must be crazy to think im all that.

someone mentioned pretty privilege/hierarchy and i do think it plays a role. almost as if some women can sense if they're more conventionally attractive than you, and therefore decide you're worth less of an effort/their time in forming a new "friendship" . bc i know if it was another "baddie" trying to be friends with them, all these excuses would not be popping up

One thing that really annoys me about the whole thing about men having to pursue women and having to make the first move is that it’s a purely modern thing here in the west. Women used to make the first move. Women used to be the one who made a move in order for the man to know that he should pursue her. Women used to drop their handkerchief in front of the man they had an interest in.

This is such good advice. I have acted like those women who treated my friendships like romantic relationships. I’d get weirdly jealous, wouldn’t put in as much energy as the other person, and take every thing so seriously. Ultimately, it was because my family needs not being met but once I came to the realization that friends are their own separate category, and I NEED friends, things have been smoother. And it’s a comforting and safe thing knowing that the more energy and effort you put into people, you’ll probably get that back more times than not (in my experience). That has kept me going

doesn't matter if it's friendships or relationships, attachment styles are always a factor... I'm a man and I'd never approach a woman first and I'm only interested in the ones who chase me, but you have to factor that I'm avoidant and very introverted (I'm better at socialising with age, but I was speak only when spoke to until I was almost mid-twenties)
