@shannongracealden: We know their names. We know their stories. But do we know what the Mayflower passengers actually looked like? Surprisingly, Edward Winslow is the only Mayflower passenger whose portrait has been authenticated. Many of the familiar images of the Pilgrims—including Myles Standish, John Alden, and Priscilla Mullins—were created long after their deaths. These paintings and engravings have shaped how generations imagine the Pilgrims, but they are artistic interpretations, not verified likenesses. It’s fascinating how much of the history we picture was actually imagined centuries later. #Mayflower #MayflowerHistory #HistoricalFiction #Author #Writing
