I remember buying a “glass rose” for a classmate because I needed something to trade for Valentine’s Day (my parents never bought me things to bring to school so I used my lunch money for the day to buy a single gift bc I thought it’d be better than bringing nothing & becoming a social pariah) and my dad bought them often so I knew they only costed a few dollars. I was an addict in a very abusive, controlling relationship. At the peak of my drug use my boys were 5 and 6. One day I was angry and irritable so my son looked for my glass rose and said here mummy you need your “happy” medicine. It completely broke me… I had tried so hard to keep it hidden from them but they knew. That was the day I decided to leave their father and get clean, 5 years later I’m still clean but I’ll never forget or forgive myself for that.. this comment section broke my heart I’m so sorry you you all went through this, you deserved better [Red heart]

my mom was on meth & left me with a man she didn’t know, & he graped me. I was 4. I thought she got sober after that. She didn’t. She hid it from me and lied to me. When I was 8, she got with my step dad. he was the only father figure I ever knew, but not a good one. He got high around all of us kids. Drank until he blacked out. He had me roll his cigarettes for him, serve his drugs for him, he crushed pills in front of me, and did fentanyl strips in front of me. I was the oldest sibling to my brother and sister who were toddlers. I remember constantly walking around the house making sure there was nothing they could get into. I became their second mom. I always changed them. I gave them baths almost every night. I watched him physically abuse my mom over and over, and wonder why she always took him back. He eventually abused me as well. We were SO MUCH better without him. Then when I was 12, cps came to my school off a tip they received. I told them everything because I was tired of holding it all in. Not knowing they’d take us away. We lived with my grandma. Who’s diabetic and has a list of her own health problems. I had to REALLY take care of my siblings then. We lived with her for a year. Every time we went to visitations or court I’m asking my mom why aren’t we coming back yet? Aren’t you clean now? She lied over and over. Eventually she did get clean. & left him. We went back “home.” Things were good for awhile. She got a good job, we moved into a nice house. Then she let him back. This time tho, I was 14. I was tired of him. They got into a physical fight, and he was hitting her in front of me and my 3 & 4 year old brother and sister. I stepped in. & he beat the shit out of me. Pulled me by my hair through the house, punched me in my eye, spit in my face, held me down. He went to prison for 10 years. When I turned 24 he was released. She drove over 14 hours to go get him out of prison.

My mom was running my bath water when I was little and I had bruises all over me from my dad… she didn’t hold me as I cried when I undressed… she looked at me and said “he got ya good didn’t he” I’ll never forget it.

I used to collect white rocks to give my Mom so she didn't have to leave me to look for them. I still remember my Mema's face when I explained that. She got custody of us soon after that.

When I was little my mom used to hide my dad's drugs in my underwear drawer. in high school my dad put methadone inside an aspirin brottle, I accidentally took it and almost died. it was in the same room that my brother died in a year before, he od from my dad's methadone...

I can remember being 6 years old , my baby sister was barely 1 , she had chicken pox an I filled the bathtub with baking soda and gave her a bath while my mom was doped out on the couch. I learned how to use a can opener cause there was a automatic one on the wall , once I knew that you can put the food in a pot and turn the stove on that’s how you cook it , I started making food for myself an my baby sister, an she couldn’t eat the things I made but I fed her what I could. Our mom locked us in our room with a pogo stick under the door knob so we couldn’t get out of the room , I fell out of the window trying to use the bathroom and I’ll never forget walking back into the apartment and the front door was wide open and my mom was just asleep on the couch like always . Every single morning I asked to go to school “you don’t have school today” but then show up an I definitely had school .. I could go on but I’m sure no one will take the time to read this , overall .. I loved my mom , I didn’t know what was going on until I got older , of course I hated her at a certain point , then I stopped using my story for excuses and let it make me who I am today , I wouldn’t change it for anything . My mom did meth for 21 years, I was so naive that I really had no idea until later in life. She's been clean for 14 years now, got her bachelor's degree, and is even a black belt in Tae Kwon Do lol. I'm so proud of her.
