If your symptoms started yesterday it’s not urgent. Also if your symptoms started 3 months ago it’s not urgent. Also if you come in with chest pain, passing out, cut an appendage off, calf pain with redness and swelling (the box you bypassed on the check in) you’re getting sent to the ED so don’t even bother or you’ll get billed twice. If you are expecting your visit to be less than 30 minutes it’s not (your pcp doesn’t get you in and out that quick either) if you’re in a hurry try again later. You will get fast care if you can’t breathe, you’re having an anaphylactic reaction, you’re bleeding, visibly broken bones… things that are URGENT!! Your sore throat, cough and runny nose for less than 24 hours will be okay. It’s an inconvenience not an urgent concern.

As someone who works in urgent care it’s because they have one provider and management allows 6 people for the same slot time. Always behind. Never an excuse for being rude though

Urgent care visit are typically supposed to run 15 minutes with 4 pts an hour but when you have people coming in thinking we’re their PCP or any other specialty that’s were the issues come with delays. A lot of urgent cares are walk-in bases. If your cousin comes in the triage bay because they think they’re having a heart attack, but it’s really anxiety that whole work up just to make sure it’s not their heart takes time. Have that same compassion when we take time from our other sick patients to make sure that person is OK because you never know when you will be on that other side.
