I used to ask people if they wanted to hang out. After so many times of being rejected or not hearing from them I now wait until someone says something first, which they usually don’t. It’s hard putting yourself out there and it made me feel ashamed too.

I have immense shame in asking for literally anything. It’s not that they know I need things, it’s that I’m embarrassed that THEY have to take time and effort to help me. My problems should not be theirs. But at the same time, I’ll help carry their problems without question or judgment because I love and care about them. I know it’s dumb, but I just can’t stand being any level of burden on others. Real or perceived.

It’s the worst! I thought I finally had a friend I could and I’ve tried to find a fun October thing to do and sent a few ideas her way and no….nothing planned. So I won’t ask again🥺

Started with parents not just saying no to everything, but getting pissed at you for even having the nerve to ask something so stupid

For me it was constantly getting turned down. Multiple times I’d ask they say no and then I’d see them out with mutuals etc

I stopped asking people when there was always an excuse that they were too busy for me but made time for everyone else.

I'm sorry you feel this way. I understand, though, because I feel the same. We feel guilty inviting people to spend time with us because we suspect they would rather decline, but knowing they would feel guilty saying no, they reluctantly accept.
-------------------------------
We're left knowing that if they genuinely wanted to spend time with us, they would reach out on their own.
-------------------------------
This leaves us caught between a rock and a hard place: longing for companionship but unwilling to impose our presence on someone who doesn't genuinely want it.

I think for me it’s because everyone already has their friends, everyone always has plans, and I’m never that best friend so in the end I have no one to ask
