There is a lady in one of my churches whose voice can stop you in your tracks. Her name is Mrs. Faith Nkhoma. She lost her sight a few years ago, but she never lost her song. When she sings, there is something beautiful about the way she carries a hymn. Sometimes, when she is unable to make it to the front to give a special song, she simply sings from where she is seated. And somehow, the distance does not matter. Her voice finds its way through the congregation. The first time I heard her sing a special song from the audience, I turned and twisted, trying to locate where the voice was coming from. When I finally spotted the chorister holding the microphone for her, I could not resist walking over to record her. The photo I am sharing here was taken at Sekelela SDA Church, where Mrs. Nkhoma stood at the front to sing, with her daughter lovingly holding the microphone for her. There is something beautiful about that picture—a mother singing, and a daughter helping her voice reach the congregation. One day, I found her daughter at church but did not see Mrs. Nkhoma. I asked her, “Where is your mother?” She told me that her mother was at home. I immediately said, “I want to see her. Please take me to her.” And so, we drove to their beautiful home. We prayed together and spent some time singing hymns. What struck me most was her memory. The moment you start a hymn, she picks it up. The words are there. The melody is there. The tune is there. While we needed hymnbooks, she sang from memory—and at times, she was the one leading us. I found myself deliberately lowering my voice as we sang, simply because I wanted to listen to hers. Some of us have Bibles we can see, hymnbooks on our shelves, phones full of sermons we can replay, and years of sitting in church. Yet sometimes what we hear never finds a permanent place in our hearts. She cannot see the words on the page, but she remembers the song. Perhaps that is the lesson: what we truly treasure has a way of staying with us. Faith is not merely about what our eyes have seen; it is also about what our hearts have received, remembered, and held onto. Her name is Faith. Her voice preaches faith. Her journey is a journey of faith. And every time I hear her sing, something in me is reminded to believe again. You have no idea how much I long to hear her sing every time I am at her local church. Sometimes the person we think needs encouragement becomes the very person God uses to encourage us. She sang hymns to us that day. But somehow, she was preaching. May God continue to strengthen you, Sr. Nkhoma, and may your voice keep preaching the faith your name carries.#sabbath #sda #sdazambia #viral
