— Someone told me I seem better lately. — Do you. — I've stopped talking about it as much. I've stopped bringing it up in conversations, stopped answering "how are you" with the honest version. And apparently that reads as improvement, because I smile more now, or at least I do it more convincingly. — That's not the same thing as being better. — I know. But nobody's asking me to clarify that. They just see the smile and the silence around the hard part and they draw the line themselves, connect it into a story where I'm doing okay now, where whatever it was has resolved itself quietly on its own. — And you let them believe that. — I let them believe it because correcting it takes more energy than I have most days. It's easier to just be the version of myself that doesn't need explaining. Smile at the right moments, don't mention the thing, let people file me under fine and move on with their lives. — That sounds lonely. — It is. But it's a specific kind of lonely, the kind that doesn't look like anything from the outside. Nobody worries about someone who's smiling more. Nobody checks in on someone who stopped bringing it up. The silence gets mistaken for peace instead of what it actually is, which is just exhaustion dressed up nicely enough to pass. — Do you ever want to correct it. — Sometimes. There's a version of me that wants to say, actually, I didn't get better, I just got quieter about it, and those aren't the same thing at all. But then I picture actually saying that out loud and watching the look on someone's face shift, and I decide it's not worth undoing whatever peace they think they're seeing. — So you're protecting them. — Maybe. Or maybe I'm protecting myself from having to explain it again, from having to relive it out loud one more time just so someone else can understand something I already understand too well. — That's not a small thing to carry alone. — No. It isn't. But nobody's going to find out, because that's sort of the whole arrangement now. I smile more, I say less, and everyone gets to keep believing whatever's easiest for them, while I keep whatever's actually happening exactly where it's been this whole time. Just further down. Quieter. Still there. #щп #щитпост
Ella Langley Cancels Tulsa Concert Hours Before Show After “Serious Security Threat” Ella Langley was hours away from performing in Tulsa when a security concern brought the night to a stop. The country singer canceled her Oct. 9 concert at Oklahoma’s BOK Center, saying a “serious security threat” involved her fans, venue staff and team. In an Instagram statement, Langley said the decision followed advice from local authorities, the venue and her security team. She did not disclose the nature of the threat. For fans who had already traveled and planned their evening around the concert, Langley acknowledged what the cancellation meant. “I know how much time, travel, money, and planning goes into coming to a show, and I can’t tell you how sorry I am,” she wrote. The performance was part of her 38-stop Dandelion Tour, which began in May in support of her second album. BOK Center said information about ticket refunds would be shared as soon as possible. Refund details were not yet included in its statement. Langley’s next scheduled performance was Oct. 10 in Lubbock, Texas. She had not announced whether the Tulsa cancellation would affect other dates. Her tour was scheduled to finish on Halloween in Saint Paul, Minnesota. While the remaining plans were unclear, Langley’s reason for canceling was direct. “Your safety will always mean more to me than anything else,” she told fans. “I refuse to put anyone in harm’s way.” What information would you want first after a last-minute concert cancellation? #EllaLangley #DandelionTour #Tulsa #BOKCenter #CountryMusic
