The spiders came out of the log because of it heating up from the fire. That log was not naturally already laying on the fire pit. Which means someone picked up a log full of spiders unknowingly and placed it there by hand.

This is exactly how salamanders became associated with fire. When people burned logs the salamanders inside would run out some on fire this led to the myth that they were born of fire
