My Grandpa passed away in 2015. I was a kid and I promised him I see him in Mexico. Unfortunately my family didn’t have enough money or papers, so phone calls it is. He’d always be the person I talk to whenever I got bullied. He introduced me to music, and I remember when used to play his violin or his guitar and he’d sing to me I was so impressed because he was blind. I then wanted to follow in his footsteps, he was happy when I told him I started playing violin at my elementary school. We’d always talk about if I ever visited we’d work on the ranch I’d always say I promise abuelo. Then on January 25 2015 my dad’s birthday we received bad news. I remember it so vividly. My family and I were in the parking lot of the DMV in Santa Ana and my Aunt had called him saying he passed away. I cried so much it was the first time in my life that I had lost someone. He wasn’t just my grandpa but my best friend. I used to go therapy because I was getting treated for ADHD and I remember telling my therapist I wanted to be up there with him I don’t want to be here anymore. She asked me why and I said because I made a promise to him that I’d see him. My parents had walked in the room and they just gave me a hug and we cried. My dad doesn’t cry but it was the first time I had ever seen him tear up and told me it’s okay he didn’t suffer because he had pass in his sleep. That news gave a me a sense of relief knowing he didn’t suffer and knowing he can see because he’s in heaven. I was still grieving for years, I was also a little suicidal because of it. Now that I’m older I play Tenor Saxophone on the worship team to serve God and to keep my grandpas memory alive. I know that if it wasn’t for him I wouldn’t be serving God. I just wish I could have one day to just spend time with him and tell him everything.
