@hamzeh.majiet: 🚨 DURBAN IS SET TO SUPPLY 80% OF THE WORLD’S VASELINE PETROLEUM JELLY 🇿🇦 Unilever has invested R100 million in a new production line at its Maydon Wharf manufacturing facility in Durban, expanding its role in the global supply chain for one of the world’s most recognised skincare products. The new investment adds a fourth Vaseline packing line, supported by a new process plant and additional bulk storage. The facility’s share of Unilever’s global Vaseline Petroleum Jelly production is expected to increase from approximately 60% to 80%. But the scale of this operation goes well beyond Vaseline. Established in 1912, the factory originally produced Sunlight bar soap. Today, it manufactures approximately 139,000 tonnes of products annually across more than 20 production lines, supplying markets across Africa and internationally. The expansion brought together specialist equipment from Germany and Italy with South African engineering expertise, with 68 engineering and fabrication teams involved in the project. The site also employs approximately 350 full-time staff and 200 freelance workers, while its location next to the Port of Durban supports access to export markets.
