The Saffarids overthrew the Abbasid held Tahirid dynasty in Khorasan in 873 CE He is Credited with helping spark the renaissance of New Persian literature and culture. Ya'qub actively promoted the use of Persian at court over Arabic, commissioning poets like Muhammad ibn Wasif to write verse in New Persian Built a sprawling military empire across eastern and southern Iran, Afghanistan, parts of Central Asia, and Balochistan/Pashtunistan, and famously marched an army nearly to the gates of Baghdad in 876 CE facing the Abbasid caliphate.
