@catholic.for.catholics: In 1992, NASA's Hubble Space Telescope made an extraordinary discovery at the heart of a distant galaxy: an enormous structure resembling a cross. ✝️ The galaxy, known as M51 or the Whirlpool Galaxy, lies millions of light-years from Earth. When astronomers examined its nucleus, they discovered two intersecting bands of dark cosmic dust forming a striking X-shaped structure against the glowing center. NASA explained that the formation consists of dust obscuring the region surrounding a supermassive black hole. The structure spans an area hundreds of light-years across. The discovery was remarkable enough for NASA to publish images showing the mysterious cross-shaped formation at the galaxy's center. For Christians, the resemblance carries a beautiful symbolism. The Cross, the instrument of our salvation, appears reflected in the vastness of a universe whose dimensions are almost impossible to comprehend. Science explains the formation through cosmic dust and the physics of galactic nuclei. Faith invites us to contemplate the greatness of the Creator. “The heavens shew forth the glory of God, and the firmament declareth the work of his hands.” Psalm 18:2 Glory to God! ✝️ #catholic #jesuschrist #fyp
