@superdisneybros: Happy 33rd Anniversary to the world premiere of The Nightmare Before Christmas! 🎃🎄 On October 9, 1993, The Nightmare Before Christmas premiered at the New York Film Festival, introducing Jack Skellington’s attempt to bring Christmas to Halloween Town. Henry Selick directed the stop-motion feature, with Tim Burton creating its story and characters and serving as a producer. Caroline Thompson wrote the screenplay, while Danny Elfman composed the songs and score that gave this strange holiday world its musical identity. Jack, the Pumpkin King, has grown tired of the same annual scares. Discovering Christmas Town opens his eyes to something completely different, but his enthusiasm for taking over the holiday soon turns festive preparations into a frightening muddle. Sally recognizes the danger in his plans, while Oogie Boogie brings his own brand of trouble. Ghost dog Zero and the two-faced Mayor add to Halloween Town’s distinctive cast. Chris Sarandon supplied Jack’s speaking voice, with Elfman performing his songs. Catherine O’Hara voiced Sally, William Hickey played Dr. Finkelstein, Glenn Shadix voiced the Mayor and Ken Page gave Oogie Boogie his unmistakable musical swagger. Songs including “This Is Halloween,” “What’s This?” and “Sally’s Song” carry the storytelling, from the town’s spooky pageantry to Sally’s quieter feelings. Its miniature sets and carefully posed puppets give the film a tangible texture. The animation earned an Academy Award nomination for Visual Effects, recognizing its remarkable craft. Originally released through Disney’s Touchstone Pictures, the film began its New York theatrical engagement on October 13, 1993, before reaching wide American release on October 29. Its lasting popularity also reached Disney parks, inspiring Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion Holiday overlay, which first appeared in 2001. Thirty-three years after that first festival screening, Jack’s journey from Halloween Town to Christmas Town still makes room for both spooky delights and quiet moments with Sally. #thenightmarebeforechristmas #jackskellington #henryselick #TimBurton #halloweentown
