@black44robin: Rongo Moana (whale) stranding on Rekohu/Wharekauri/Chatham Islands 🐳 These are very common here at home, more common than what we would like in fact… but there’s no controlling Mother Nature. We also have very respectful procedures for removal of Rongomoana through our iwi and imi. Some facts that were handed to me shout out to brother Levi: - Rekohu gets between 100-500 rongo moana strand each year. More then the rest of nz combined - Because of our isolation, a lot go unnoticed or reported unlike the mainland - Whales are not refloated here because of the large shark populations which make it too dangerous 🦈 Rest in peace to these beautiful Rongo Moana. 🐋 #chathamislands #newzealand #whalestrading #islandlife #rongomoana

A load stranded when I was there a few years back. DOC euthenised them. I didn't know the reason they weren't refloated was due to sharks!

Yea they travel down to seek crill to migrate but bc crill oil on the supermarket means more than their feed they do what we’d all do without food, we’d die
