He may also be a high functioning alcoholic. I knew a man that was. Could not tell he had been drinking but we were at the fair and HWY patrol had a breathalyzer that they were testing people that asked to be tested. The officer looked at the man and asked him if he had driven to the event because he was legally too drunk to be driving. Needless to say, we were all myself, my husband, and this man’s girlfriend, had no idea that he had had nothing to drink. I kid you’re not.

Just cause he smells of it doesn’t mean he’s actively drinking. I run a liquor store and my functional customers smell of it as soon as I open, because they sweat it out while they sleep. They can be sober and still smell like a bottle of vodka.
