Immigrant defense groups are urging people who are vulnerable to arrest by ICE and Border Patrol to stay home, if possible, and to make a plan for the care of their loved ones in the event they’re detained. From Pacoima to Bellflower, and from East LA to the Fashion District, Department of Homeland Security agents have arrested dozens of immigrants since Monday, according to LA Taco. Grassroots community patrols have identified DHS agents mainly driving dark colored and unmarked SUVs and trucks through neighborhoods across the LA region. The spike in arrests comes as news broke about “Operation Safe California,” a 45-day surge by DHS targeting immigrants with and without criminal records, according to sources who spoke with Washington Examiner and said ICE agents were told to “go after anybody.” The operation hasn’t been publicly announced by DHS.
