at age 13 i was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder called crohns disease . little did i know my entire life was gonna change forever . as the years went on i quickly realized the amount of damage this disease was capable of doing to my body. i suffered years with chronic, debilitating pain and inflammation that seemed never ending and resistant to most treatments . I spent years of my life in hospitals, at dr appts, and revolving my life around my health . not only was it traumatic but It also took a toll on me emotionally as I always felt so different from the people around me . the chronic bloating took a huge toll on my mental health as well. ages 19-23 were some of the most challenging years. not only had my pain skyrocketed , but i was enduring verbal abuse , and the emotional stress only added to what my body was already going through . I was told I developed severe complications of Crohn's . I had a fibrotic colonic stricture that was the width of a pencil. I also had very complex fistulas and matting bowels. I was told I needed surgery in 2022 but i was deathly afraid . I delayed the surgery for so long and put up with the pain as I tried to help myself naturally. but it was too far gone. now I'm standing here in October 2026, saying I DID IT. and I didn't need anyone I thought I couldn't do it without. It took a 5 hour long open bowel resection with a temporary ileostomy and a very difficult two week hospital stay , but I made it through. I have so many plans and goals I am going to achieve in the coming years .I'm not cured, but I am on a clean slate. thankfully my ostomy bag is only temporary, but many people live with this permanently. this is a very vulnerable post , but it's raw, it's real, and it's a part of my story #crohnsdisease #ibdawareness #bowelresection #ileostomy #ostomy
