The real people live, and work in the old city which is separated from Ashgabat. This city was made for show, that’s why you won’t see many people, only those who have business there. It’s not a free state, is in fact a very controlled one, but a cool experience for tourists

I am a local who was born in Ashgabat, a turkmen, and to be honest at times I myself wonder how beautiful Ashgabat is. Like I can look at the window at the library, or supermarket or just a random facility. Ashgabat keeps fascinating me. I adore fantasy, and Ashgabat feels like fantasy, because the architecture is really something special, so well structured. About not having people around, well I have lived near the city centre and in the suburb of Ashgabat as well. And most of the time I stay at home, because unfortunately the weather is hot,so I prefer places with AC. But in general, Ashgabat is beautiful and has a lot to offer for visitors. Of course as every country on Earth we have problems on our own. I don't want to brag (or to eye my fate) but I was never robbed or offended in some ways or threatened on the street as a girl. And I worked till pretty late as a teacher of the night shift. The turkmen government can give its civilians peace and safety. That is really a diamond especially for young girls. And in the place where a young girl feels herself safe speaking ill feels so WRONG!
