The earth cable is actually for if you have any electrical faults on your pipework or cables near or under the bath gives the electrical current an alternative path so that the alternative path isn’t through you

actually if you decide to take a bath with the toaster you will still get electrocuted the wire is because as water passes through the tap it produces SYATIC electricity just like when you touch your car door handle sometimes you get a little static shock 😊

Are you with housing association just wondering cos I am about to move into housing association and want to know what I can and cant do when decorating/renovating and whether I need landlord permission. One of the things I want to do is upgrade my bathroom like what you are doing, but not sure if I can with housing association?

Dw too much about the earth wire these days as the bath connects to the tap that connects to at least one of these somewhere and that does the job, also 33 yrs is pretty old for a bathroom but if you get a bath I warn you they will delay you getting a new bathroom as it takes away from the savings to the new bathroom when you get repairs done
