@becomingherwithkel: Healthcare girlies… HOW are we supposed to keep doing 12-hour shifts until retirement?! 😭 And please don’t tell me we get four days off. Because two are spent recovering, one is spent catching up on life, and the last one is spent dreading going back. 😂 But the question nobody wants to ask is… What happens when you’re 50, exhausted, and financially you STILL can’t afford to work less? I loved parts of my healthcare career, but after 10 years I knew I wanted different options for my life. And no, that doesn’t mean everybody needs to quit. It means you deserve to have choices beyond picking up another shift. Comment OPTIONS if you’re curious about building a second income around your healthcare career. #HealthcareTok #WomenInHealthcare #ShiftWorkers #HealthcareBurnout #OptionsOverOvertime
It's been 2 years and i think about quiting every single day.

You have to love what you do. Most people in healthcare don't love what they do

I hit the point where I was fully ready to throw that one coworker on day shift out a window. Thats when I knew I had to start looking into other options and went back to uni. Im halfway through a bio course now. I loved being a carer, but jesus christ does it kill your spirit sometimes

I’ve been working in care since i was 17 now im 19, i love being a carer but i now don’t have energy to socialise outside work anymore, i’ve lost friends due to work and crazy hours, 12hr days mixed with 12hr nights. My family think im lazy because i just come home, shower then bed. Unless your a carer no one understands how exhausted you actually are.

I’ve been doing this for three years now, when I tell people I want to leave nursing, they look at me funnily. They don’t know how burned out I am and how much the night shifts especially take a toll on me and my sleep

I stopped picking overtime, I do my 36hrs and call it a day, the burnout is not worth my mental health, It has honestly changed my quality of life and I have more free time for my personal life.💜

I did 6 months in care and was told ‘don’t get attached to the elderly residents.’ If you managed to not get attached, you’re a psychopath. Unfortunately those who can ‘hack it’ are cold hearted, so I left. My heart couldn’t take it

And to think some nurses retire at 65 and still come back to work in this system ...is actually scary......😱😱😱

It’s a big adjustment. But once you know that life going back to 5days a week is awful. I lasted 6 months and back to 12hr shifts I went

I worked in care and sometimes it was brutal!!! I spent all time off recovering but had to stop working as my breathing got worse and worse and was diagnosed with Aspergillosis ( mould in my lungs) other wise I’d have kept going!!! I was 59 now 60 ……..
