She says what she saw inside the home does not match what viewers saw on TV. Ashley H., 42, says she worked as a house cleaner and fill-in nanny for Kate Gosselin for six months. She says she took the job around 2013, while studying for her master’s degree in social work. Ashley claims Kate treated Collin differently from her other children. “I saw her grab Collin many, many times,” she told PEOPLE. She also claims Kate would “rip him right out of his chair in the kitchen.” She says there was a “house manual” of rules for staff. She claims the house was supposed to look unlived-in, with no toys left out. Ashley also claims she found a big red plastic spoon in a school supply drawer. She says one of the children told her it was the spoon their mother used “when she gets mad.” She says that made her quit. She also says she called Children and Youth Services for Berks County before she left. The agency declined to comment, citing confidentiality laws. Ashley is speaking out to back claims Collin makes in his memoir, In the Shadow of Eight. In 2024, Kate’s attorney, Richard Puleo, said he did not believe Kate had done anything to “intentionally harm” her son.
