Simplifying photography for my pottery is a must. If I have to do an elaborate set up each time, I’m going to dread it. That’s for special occasions. I always shoot with a window to one side then pay attention to when the light is best and try to shoot at that time. I supplement with this cutie patootie little Neewer light when I want a little extra drama or it’s an overcast day. When I shoot at night I use an LED panel light that mimics a wash of natural light. I wrote a blog post about it if you want the links to the exact equipment I’m using. You can find the link in my bio. I have another tripod with a clamp for a reflector. I prefer white. I’ve got “real” reflectors but usually end up using this piece of foamcore because it’s more versatile for me. Posterboard works, too. My backdrop is Savage Seamless paper clipped to the wall. I shoot with my camera on a tripod about 1/2 the time. Sometimes it slows me down. I use manual settings (except white balance because fuck that). I don’t use my iPhone any more for photos (usually) but do for video. I’m a complete heathen when it comes to editing and use the Snapseed app (free) on my phone. It’s not the best choice but it’s the best for me because it reduces the steps and Lightroom has always been a mystery I have zero desire to explore. If you want a good course for photos, has an amazing one. If you want someone to shoot special pieces for you, is my favorite photographer!
