@historicallagos: Ajagbe Bomboy, The Gentle Giant of Oshodi. In the 1990s, one name carried weight across Oshodi and Bolade, Ajagbe Bomboy, born Ugochukwu Dum Obiora. He was a feared area boy leader, yet people remember him as soft-spoken and gentle. Bomboy hailed from Mgbidi in Imo State. He learned street boxing under a professional fighter in Oshodi and also ran a commercial motorcycle (okada) business. His rise began when he organized the collection of fees from market women and took control of key parts of Oshodi. Politicians soon noticed his influence and used him for election-time intimidation and street control. He also had a soft side. Bomboy was a big fan of the Fuji musician Malaika, and a video clip survives of Malaika singing his praises, a sign of how far his name travelled beyond the streets. His fall came when Taoreed Adedigba, a trusted subordinate, betrayed him and staged a coup. In the violent clash that followed, Bomboy was badly injured. He fell into a gutter, the leg wound became infected, and he died from it in the early 2000s. #HistoricalLagos #AjagbeBomboy #Bomboy #UgochukwuObiora #Oshodi OshodiHistory Bolade LagosHistory LagosStories LagosAreaBoys AreaBoys OshodiAreaBoys Malaika MalaikaFuji FujiMusic FujiMusicians NigerianMusic NigerianHistory NaijaHistory Nigeria90s 90sNigeria LagosInThe90s OldLagos LagosCulture StreetLegends LagosLegends Imo Mgbidi Igbo LagosUnderground UntoldStories NigerianHistoryUncovered LagosNostalgia Naija Lagos
