Why monthly ETF investing in Ireland becomes a tax nightmare 🇮🇪👇 Most responsible investors buy index funds or ETFs on a monthly basis. But under Ireland’s 8-year Deemed Disposal rules, every single monthly purchase triggers its own individual 8-year tax clock. The consequences of rolling Deemed Disposal: Rolling Tax Anniversaries: After 8 years of monthly buying, you have a separate tax liability and self-assessment calculation for each purchase. Administrative Chaos: The tax paperwork becomes so overwhelming that many people simply give up on investing in ETFs altogether. Trapped in Cash: People end up leaving cash in bank accounts where inflation (averaging 2.45% annually over 10 years) continuously erodes their buying power. Forced into High Risk: Frustrated by ETF tax, investors are pushed into far riskier assets like individual stock picking and crypto, or coaxed into expensive broker life funds with high annual management fees. Deemed Disposal doesn't just penalize wealth - its administrative burden completely deters ordinary people from safe, long-term indexing.
