@stitchesbowness: I debated making this post but when your entire existence is political, you can either hide or help. I thought I’d help break down exactly why I and others are refusing to touch anything Harry Potter. JK Rowling, on more than one occasion, has used her profits from the Harry Potter series, to directly fund anti-trans organisations. Organisations which have now influenced laws that directly harm transgender people as well as cis people who may not fit the stereotypical male or female ‘look’. Any licensed product sold is money into her pocket, money which is used to strip back the rights of trans people. A community routinely demonised in the media in recent times, which only seems to be increasing. A community just trying to navigate life just like anyone else. In a small attempt to offset the impact, Stitches will be donating £250 to Mermaids, a charity dedicated to supporting young trans people, and Queer Cumbria, a local LGBT+ organisation.
