A great white shark breached just off the shore at Marina State Beach in California over the weekend, an event caught on camera that prompted California State Parks to issue a shark advisory for the area. Erin King, a local resident, was at the beach on Saturday enjoying the sunny October weather when the unexpected moment occurred.

A great white shark breached just off the shore at Marina State Beach in California over the weekend, an event caught on camera that prompted California State Parks to issue a shark advisory for the area. Erin King, a local resident, was at the beach on Saturday enjoying the sunny October weather when the unexpected moment occurred. "I'm an ocean girl and a beach girl. Grew up born and raised here. So, the beach is my home, and it just felt like a great day to come out and take advantage of some October sunshine," King said. While at the beach, King noticed three young women taking pictures and offered to help them. "They were just really kind young ladies, who immediately insisted upon my taking photos of them, that they'd take one of me," King said. As the girls were taking King’s picture, the great white shark breached in the water behind them. "It happened so fast. I mean, it was just an instant. So, it just so happened that we got to see that, and I don't think anybody else really did," King said. California State Parks independently confirmed the shark breach at Marina State Beach, noting that the timestamp on King’s video matched perfectly with a surf line video of the same event. "Given where she was standing, and the timestamp on her video, which matched up perfectly with the timestamp on the surf line video, it's very likely to be the same shark," said Mike Dippel, Chief Ranger for California State Parks. The agency issued a shark advisory for Marina State Beach, explaining that fall is a common time to see great white sharks along the Central Coast. "It is that time of the year. October, the fall months tend to be when white sharks do come back and migrate to the Central Coast. So just make sure you're aware of that and using caution when surfing or swimming, recreating in the water around the Central Coast this time of year," said Dippel.
