@letsbetechs: How many of you replace belts as part of an annual preventive maintenance check? Over time, belts stretch and wear down. Most customers in our area wait until a belt snaps—turning a simple fix into an emergency. Before they fail completely, loose belts reduce airflow, which can freeze up the entire coil. As that ice expands, it does serious damage: bending copper, creating refrigerant leaks, and even cracking concrete! This customer is moving to an annual belt replacement schedule. Now, when I pull the old belts off next year, they’ll still be in great shape to keep on-site as emergency spares. 🔧⚙️ #hvac #hvacapprentice #hvactechnician #hvaclife #preventivemaintenance

I think your belt is on the wrong side of the tensioner. The tensioner pulley looks flat, which means it should be touching the wide face of the belt.

It's certainly not setup the way I'd expect. I'd expect the belt to be on the outside of the belt putting tension on the outside.

It’s only loose on the bottom. Just fix that part of it and you’re good

Back in the day, those tensioners came in plastic. It would always fall apart and then they started making them in metal. Nice change.

Wouldn't it ha e worked better to move that tensioner in to position without the belt on, and then force the belt on by turning the fan pulley just like you did when it was slightly off just now ?

that’s not how you test belt tension You’re just pissing in the wind there. The realway to test belt tension is with a belt touching gauge.
