@mind_yourboundaries: I’m sorry, but how unreasonable? My first question when I read this was, how old is this bride? Well, really, the couple. And where is the son in all this? Did the DIL throw out this ultimatum without talking to him first? And then what did he say when she told him? I have so many thoughts about this and where this could go if something isn’t done NOW. I’ll share all that next week in the video. But first I wanna hear what you see. Like put yourself in the bride’s shoes. No matter how ridiculous this seems what would need to be going on with you for you to react this way? Let’s talk about it👇🏽 #boundaries #familydrama #weddingdrama #dil #storytelling

“Well, I’m sorry you still feel that way. The invitation is open to all of you. Your decision is your own to make but we will not be entertaining hostility in our home.”

Your son needs to be the one to handle the daughter in law.

I guess it depends how she went into labor. If she left immediately and other people happened to notice, then your DIL is wrong for being petty about it. If she stayed the whole time, let everyone know, and called attention to herself, your DIL might be a little more justified in how she feels. The Dad’s birthday where she claims they wont go if sister attends her own dad’s birthday is beyond petty and unnecessary. The event isn’t about her and she’s doing exactly what the laboring sister did to her to her own husband’s dad.

This is tough. I would seek to shield my daughter, but not push my DIL (and son) away. I would tell DIL that I understand that her special day was overshadowed by my daughter going into labor. I would tell her that it's okay to feel disappointed that her wedding day didn't go as expected. I would also say that my daughter didn't choose to go into labor at the wedding and that it was out of her control. She went into PRETERM labor and the family naturally was concerned. I'd acknowledge that those unforseen circumstances disrupted her day, but remind her that my daughter did nothing wrong and did not intentionally seek to upstage her. I would tell her that if Dad or I did anything that made her feel hurt or overlooked, we would be willing to hear her side and would readily make things right, apologize to her and hope that is enough to move forward and resolve this hurt. I'd tell her that I will not uninvite my daughter from family functions because she doesn't deserve to be punished for something beyond her control just to keep the peace. I'd remind her that she is family now and we want her and my son at family gatherings, but will not be choosing sides or reorganizing our plans to accommodate her anger. I'd tell her our door is open whenever she is ready to walk through it with civility.

Stop talking to,your DIL and have a serious talk with son. Tell him you, love him and your door is always open to him, but until his wife grows up and gets some maturity and understanding, she is no longer welcome in your family. Tell son he is always welcome, but wife will no longer be tolerated

I tell my son that I’m going to miss him at his dads birthday dinner and that I’m not uninviting your dads daughter because your wife is mad that the baby and her body decided it was time to come . That is not controlled. And that you hope when it’s your dil time to have a baby it’s on the perfect schedule for her.

DIL is just that , you welcomed her into family, there is no choosing ! Your DIL needs to know her place and shame on your son

I have read this story before and from what i can remember is that the groom was excited and was waiting around for news about his sister and the baby aswell so I think dil is jealous and insecure and she is the only one with the problem

Your DIL is toxic, and she’ll always be the victim. I feel awful for your son, because she will eventually force him to choose. It puts you in a terrible situation as well. I might would seek out a family counselor to help you deal with the situation.

Your son should handle it. His wife is wrong! If he lets this pettiness slide to the point that it ruins his relationship with his parents—that’s his choice. You have to let him make that choice!

Your own children are your priority plus there's a grandbaby, the most important part of all. The DIL needs to get over herself.

she probably needs someone to empathize with her while also reiterating that while things didnt go to plan it was no ones fault and you wont punish your daughter for something she had no choice over. however youre more then happy to have everyone at the party as long as everyone can be civil and understanding

Don’t un-invite anyone… just say, I am sorry you feel that way. Tell her all your children are always welcome to celebrate, you hope they come and you love her. That is all you need to do!

My father was in the hospital the entire week before my wedding, everyone was concerned about his health at my wedding (as was I). Your wedding is just a day, it’s the people that matter.

If that happened to me, I would feel super guilty about going into labor, even if it wasn’t my fault which it wasn’t. Despite that it wasn’t my fault I understand why it would suck as a bride on her wedding day. Sounds like some jealousy issues, either warranted or unwarranted starting before this. Goal should be to make her feel welcome in the family and figure out a way to make it up to her that her wedding day was overshadowed, despite it being no one’s fault. Two things can be true at the same time. Her wedding was overshadowed and it’s not the daughter‘s fault. I sense that if the tables were turned, you’d be mad at her for ruining your daughter’s wedding.

I think I would have a conversation with my son that he an his wife are always invited, but I will not shun my daughter for going into labor early when she had no control over that. He can decide how he wants to handle it.

This shouldn’t even be a choice. If your son has an issue he can address it with his sister. If it’s just your DIL, she can stay home.
