@haunts_r_us: Deep in Washington, New Jersey, in Warren County, lies Mansfield-Woodhouse Cemetery—a historic burial ground dating back to the 1700s, rumored to be cursed. Its graves are literally sinking into the earth. While deteriorating wooden coffins and centuries of erosion may explain the unsettling depressions, local lore offers a darker possibility: What if the ground itself is rejecting its dead? And that’s not the only legend surrounding this cemetery. Visitors have shared stories of unexplained activity, eerie sensations, and a phantom Revolutionary War soldier reportedly seen near the cemetery’s wooded perimeter. With Revolutionary War veterans buried here, including Captain John Axford and Cornelius Carhart, could one of these soldiers still be guarding the grounds? But the cemetery also holds the victims of one of Warren County’s most horrifying historical crimes: the Changewater Massacre of 1843. John Castner, his wife Maria Parke Castner, their three-year-old daughter Mary Matilda, and Maria’s brother John B. Parke were brutally murdered in their home. Two men, Peter W. Parke and Joseph Carter Jr., were convicted and publicly executed for the killings, despite maintaining their innocence. Their alleged burial site at nearby Murderers’ Crossroads, near Asbury-Anderson Road and McCullough Road, has its own chilling ghost legends. We also uncover the remarkable history of Margaret “Peggy” Warne, an 18th-century midwife who served the local community and is buried in this historic cemetery. Armed with our spirit boxes, SLS camera, and EMF equipment, we investigated the graves of the Changewater victims and searched for signs of the legendary Revolutionary War spirit. During our investigation, our visual spirit box displayed the words “sleep,” “wake,” and “affair” near the murder victims’ graves, while our audible spirit box produced some intriguing responses to questions about the killings. We also captured unusual human-shaped figures on our SLS camera. Were these simply coincidences and equipment anomalies—or something more? From sinking graves and a rumored curse to Revolutionary War ghost sightings and a 183-year-old murder mystery, Mansfield-Woodhouse Cemetery is one of Northwest New Jersey’s most intriguing historic burial grounds. Do you believe this cemetery is cursed? And were the right men executed for the Changewater Massacre? Let us know what YOU think! 👇 Follow Haunts_R_Us as we explore haunted cemeteries, forgotten history, local legends, paranormal hotspots, and unsolved mysteries throughout Warren County, Hunterdon County, and New Jersey. ⸻ #HauntedNewJersey #WarrenCountyNJ #ChangewaterMassacre #ParanormalInvestigation #HauntedCemeteries

Go to Stewartsville cemetery at night no lights and without making a crazy amount of noise, it’s haunted has a boy who looks over the back wall at you a lady he runs to a blop shadow guard the cemetery will and won’t allow you in. I know from stories from both my mom and dad going there even sleeping over and dead having the worse experience. I went there at night with my brother and was only one aloud to walk into the cemetery, there’s also more that can happen by what was told wasn’t just my mom and dad to tell me things about it either. it’s hidden so if would want to find it message me and can send the location

I grew up in the area and I live right down the road from the cemetery I know from a young age of the change Water murders. It’s sad that that cemetery is not taken very good care of either. Those buried their deserve better.

I see the Vliet name on Peggy Warne and her husband’s stone listed like a maiden name. I wonder if she was of the Vliet family that is buried behind Heritage Park on 173? All these names start popping up more and more. Pretty interesting stuff.

My mother used to work at Shippen Manor in Oxford and that is most definitely haunted - you should check that out. Also, I used to live next door to Port Colden Manor in Washington (in the Manor's old carriage house- which I believe is haunted) and the Manor itself is supposedly haunted - we used to see what looked like people's shadows in the upstairs windows even though we knew no one was in the building.
