@thehistorynow: Why don't giraffes hide from storms? Follow @historynows for stories they don't teach. When heavy rain rolls across the African savanna, most animals look for shelter. Giraffes usually don't. With few places to hide and bodies built to withstand the elements, they often remain out in the open, calmly grazing or standing still while the storm passes. Instead of running from the rain, they may slowly move toward trees or lower ground simply to reduce wind exposure. For giraffes, surviving a storm isn't about hiding. It's about enduring it.
