@jhallorankoren: My heart goes out to the family of the Philadelphia police officer who tragically lost his life in the line of duty early this morning, to the officer who was seriously wounded, and to the entire Philadelphia Police Department. I know some people believe that because I have been outspoken in my criticism of the Philadelphia Police Department, I am somehow against the department as a whole. Nothing could be further from the truth. Demanding accountability from a police department and respecting the men and women who put their lives on the line to protect our communities are not mutually exclusive. These two officers answered a call for help. They did their jobs with courage, and one paid the ultimate price. Both deserve our gratitude, our respect, and our unwavering support. There will be a time to address other matters. Today is not that day. Today is about mourning a fallen officer, supporting his family and colleagues, and praying for the full recovery of the officer still fighting for his life. May we never forget the sacrifices made by those who put on the uniform and answer the call to serve.
