@heikoinvests: Build your emergency fund. Your Step 1 cash covers an excess. This covers your life. Aim for three to six months of essential expenses, and the full six if you're self employed, have one income or work in an unstable industry. Keep it somewhere safe and accessible, like a money market fund, a separate savings account or an access bond. Not in your cheque account, and not in shares. Your two pot savings component doesn't count. Every withdrawal is taxed at your marginal rate, so in the 36% bracket a R10 000 withdrawal leaves you with R6 400. Comment MONEYSTEPS and I'll send you the full South African checklist, and catch the rest of The Money Steps series on my page. Disclaimer: Educational content only, not financial advice.
