Inability to detach from his emotions: By abandoning his training to rescue Katara in Ba Sing Se, he found himself unable to master the Avatar State at a crucial moment. This allowed Azula to strike him down with lightning, leading to the fall of Ba Sing Se and the temporary breaking of the Avatar cycle. Marked parental favoritism: As a father, Aang had three children: Bumi (a non-bender), Kya (a waterbender), and Tenzin (the only airbender). Obsessed with the survival and restoration of Air Nomad culture, Aang lavished all his attention and privileges on Tenzin while neglecting Kya and Bumi, fostering deep-seated family resentment. Unintentionally creating inequality in Republic City: When founding Republic City with Zuko, Aang established a governing council led exclusively by benders. This structure marginalized non-bending citizens, sowing the seeds for the "Equalist" uprising led by Amon decades later.
