I'm against the death penalty in all circumstances. It's better to just keep them in prison for life, where they have to suffer with the idea that their actions put them there. Their actions took away their freedom. That's more of a punishment than ending their life. The bonus is, you don't accidentally (or in many cases, intentionally) kill an innocent person!

What reduces crime is addressing the social/economic issues that are at the heart of why people commit crimes. Then, if they do commit a crime, do what we can to rehabilitate them (considering the number of repeat offenders). Instead, our ONLY goal as a country is punishment, not prevention

But you need to understand, proponents don't actually care about crime rates. They want corporal punishment because they believe in retributive justice as a sort of cosmic balancing, not because they think it makes the world a better place.
