@realcodiesanchez: Hate to break it to you. There’s only 5 types of employees. I only hire one of them. I go more in depth on my hiring matrix in my upcoming masterclass.
level 6- fixed it without looking for recognition so you never even heard about it

But you can only do level 5 if your company and/or leadership allow you the autonomy to do so. That is not always the case and “fixing it” before doing level 4 could get you in trouble. Just sayin. It’s not always the employee that is the problem.

So basically problem never come you - that’s why big companies’ leadership eventually detach from reality, live in bubbles, and fell behind the curve.

unfortunately doesnt work that way. lol you'll be stuck as a fixer and they will dangle the carrot in your face not letting you grow out of the position you are in. Do the bare minimum people

You may wish to freeze at level four and start adding some caveats before anyone listening to this advice jumps up to level five on their own. Fixing the problem on your own tread the line between being a star and a cowboy. Neither one of them are really that great in an organization. You must be certain that you know the bigger picture of your situation that is technically only the responsibility of your boss. You may not have been given access to all of the information that you need in order to make that choice to fix the problem. You could easily be overstepping into another person’s, department’s or even another union’s area of authority.

I couldn’t disagree more. Knowing a problem and fixing it causes you to be stuck in that position. Becoming a part of the upper level good ol’ boys club gets you promoted.

Nope. It breaks and I know how, it might save time but if it breaks again it your fault it didn’t last.

Be careful to only be the fixer in environments where it's seen as an asset not a threat

Level 4.5 is key though. Problem + Cause plus “I’m ready to fix it this way unless you tell me I shouldnt” - critical to not have L2 employees making problems FAR WORSE

1) Your idea always sounds better coming from someone who has a title. 2) Nothing will ever be fixed unless it directly affects the person who can fix it.

BS. You can be the high level and still get paid the same as the smoke detector. That’s why I left the corporate world and started my own company.

I can do level 5 but I didn't do it the way my supervisor would do it so I'm automatically wrong. I can never win.

If you’re given the power to fix it, sure. Many offices don’t want anyone giving them ideas on how to fix things or taking initiative.
