🚨⚡🇵🇷 WTF, PUERTO RICO?! THEY SCREW UP, WE PAY UP?! 💸 $48 MILLION! That’s how much Puerto Rico’s electrical system reportedly fell short in September. And guess who’s potentially getting stuck with the bill? YOU. ME. EVERY FAMILY AND BUSINESS IN PUERTO RICO. According to El Nuevo Día, higher oil prices, power plant failures, and a dispute that delayed a natural gas shipment contributed to the deficit. Now, an accelerated rate adjustment could pass those costs to consumers in November and December. The extra charge has NOT been approved. But the fact that we’re even discussing it is outrageous. 🤬 WTF?! SINCE WHEN DID CONSUMERS BECOME THE INSURANCE POLICY FOR EVERYONE ELSE’S FAILURES? Think about this: ⚡ Power plants break down. WE PAY. ⛽ Fuel contracts and deliveries run into problems. WE PAY. 🏛️ Government leaders fail to modernize our electrical infrastructure. WE PAY. 💸 Operating costs exceed projections. GUESS WHAT? WE PAY AGAIN! Meanwhile, when WE can’t afford our electricity bills, nobody offers us an accelerated adjustment to recover our losses. We face late fees and possible disconnection. Funny how accountability only seems to flow in one direction. And here’s what really gets me. Hurricane María was NINE YEARS AGO! We knew then that our dependence on imported fossil fuels was economically dangerous. We knew our aging infrastructure was vulnerable. We knew renewable energy, storage, and a more resilient grid had to become priorities. Nine years later, we’re still paying for the same vulnerabilities. I’m not suggesting that every increase in fuel costs is avoidable. Energy costs money. But customers should not automatically be responsible for every extraordinary expense associated with operational failures, poor planning, or contractual disputes. Where is the accountability? Where is the transparency? And where is the urgency to fix this system instead of repeatedly charging us for its shortcomings? 📢 ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! Before another cent is added to our bills, the Puerto Rico Energy Bureau should demand a complete accounting of that $48 million, determine which expenses were justified, and reject any costs that resulted from avoidable or unreasonable decisions. LUMA, Genera, the fuel suppliers, and government officials all have responsibilities. Consumers deserve to know who made the decisions and who should bear the financial consequences. 🇵🇷 PUERTO RICANS ARE ELECTRICITY CUSTOMERS, NOT AN UNLIMITED EMERGENCY FUND! If consumers are held accountable for paying their bills, the people running our electrical system must be held accountable for running it. And THAT shouldn’t be too much to ask. 🔎 THE UNFILTERED LENS Because someone needs to ask the uncomfortable questions. #PuertoRico #WTF #LUMA #GeneraPR #ElectricityCrisis
