It clocked 61 mph in a 45 mph zone on Highway 90 near Watkins Street. He tailed the car. It weaved between lanes. Zoller flipped on his lights for a stop. The driver pulled into the liquor store lot at 5091 Highway 90. He stepped out and met the driver, 23-year-old Haley Stubbs. While talking to her, Zoller smelled booze. He saw signs she was impaired. Her brother, Jeffrey Stubbs, sat in the passenger seat, soaked in puke. Haley said they were driving home from LandShark bar in Pensacola. Zoller called medics for Jeffrey. He had passed out at first but woke up soon after. Zoller suspected Haley was drunk. He had her step out for sobriety tests while Deputy Elenz watched her brother. Zoller began with the eye test, Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus. He noted jerky eyes, no smooth tracking, shakes at the end, and onset before 45 degrees. Next came Walk and Turn. Haley missed heel-to-toe steps. She took wrong counts. She tried again but failed. Last was One Leg Stand. She dropped her foot too soon. She did not hold it right. Her wild driving, booze smell, impairment clues, and bad tests led Zoller to arrest her for DUI. Jeffrey got an Uber ride home. They took Haley to the sheriff's office.
