Heavy on the “it’s harder when Black women are against you too.”m One of the realest and most heartbreaking things I’ve ever had the misfortune of hearing was that I represented everything society hates: Black, female, and a single mother. I didn’t want to believe it. But the older I get, the harder it becomes to ignore. And what hurts most is when that same judgment comes from women who look just like me. How can we EVER expect empathy from others when we struggle to extend it to one another. Like, love… I am literally your reflection. Yet you cannot see yourself in me because you’re too busy seeing what society has conditioned you to believe about women like us. And that, to me, is one of the most heartbreaking parts of it all. 😔
