The biggest opportunities in tech episode 2 👾 AI is starting to move off the cloud and onto your own machine. I think it’s one of the biggest opportunities in tech right now. The free models you can download have got really good. They’ll (likely) never be as good as frontier ones, but they don't need to be. Now they are at a level were they can do some really useful stuff. You don’t need the smartest AI in the world to summarise a contract or sort a pile of invoices. It's clear that agents are going to disrupt the workforce, and in a few years I think local agents could be doing a lot of the menial work for companies. The hardware allowing this. Nvidia’s RTX Spark is its first full Windows laptop chip, and it’s built for running AI on the device. The Surface Laptop Ultra is one of the first laptops with it. Dell, HP, Lenovo, ASUS and MSI have their own coming. Macs could already do this. But most offices don’t run on Macs. They run on Windows. Also companies have been on prem/hybrid for a while, but this is a trend of it becoming more accessible. If the AI runs on your customer’s laptop, you’re not paying a cloud bill every time someone uses your product. And a law firm or clinic that won’t send client data to an AI company can keep everything in the building. The laptops aren’t cheap right now. But a business buys a laptop once.
